While positions open from time to time, the library is always accepting applications for part-time employment.
Applications are available at the reference desks in either Centereach or Selden buildings. For more information, please see a reference librarian.

Position Descriptions:
Custodial Aid
Job Description A part-time custodial aid performs light maintenance and cleaning duties in the library. During the winter months you will be required to assist in snow removal.
Description of Duties Routine evening maintenance of an assigned area. A specific checklist to be completed nightly. Report any broken equipment to your supervisor.
Qualifications / Skills Required Applicants must be high school graduates.
Applicants must have a valid N.Y. State driver's license.
Applicant must be organized, flexible, reliable, and have the ability to work well with people.
Hours Between 12-17.5 hours/wk, some weekend work required.

Description of Duties A Page is required to shelve library materials, assist patrons with computers, be responsible to make photocopies, keep the library area neat and organized, and assist the librarians with special program needs.
Qualifications / Skills Required Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.
Applicants must reside in the Middle Country School District.
The applicant must be able to perform the physical labor involved in shelving and moving furniture and materials.
The applicant must be organized, reliable and have the ability to work well with the public.
Computer experience and artistic skills, while not necessary are a plus.
Applicants under 18 must obtain working papers in order to qualify for an interview.
No other job experience is required. On-site training is provided.
Hours Between 12 - 15 hours a week;
Sunday - Saturday 9:00am - 9:00pm

Part-Time Library Clerk
Job Description A part-time clerk in a public library performs clerical duties and assists library patrons in using the materials and equipment in the library. Detailed instructions and close supervision are received during training and on new assignments, but routine assignments are carried out independently and the employee is expected to use some initiative and judgment as experience is gained. The work is reviewed by a professional or clerical supervisor through direct observation.
Description of Duties Provide circulation services to the public; operate and assist in the use of equipment; search for and retrieve library materials; enter, update and maintain various databases for computer and manual systems; assist in the preparation and presentation of programs and displays; process orders, receive prepare and repair library materials for use by the public and staff; make receive and direct calls.
Qualifications / Skills Required Applicants must be high school graduates.
Applicants must reside in the Middle Country School District.
The applicant must be organized, flexible, reliable and have the ability to work well with the public.
Computer experience is a plus, but not necessary.
Hours Between 12 - 17.5 hours a week;
Sunday - Saturday 9:00am - 9:00pm
